Little, of no fixed abode, appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on Monday, October 19, and pleaded guilty to all the offences.

She was jailed for 12 weeks and ordered to pay the assault victim £100 compensation.

Alisha Meldrum, of Ferryhill Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “As the new neighbourhood policing sergeant, I am very proud and impressed with the hard work conducted by the team securing the arrest, charge and remand of one of our most prolific shoplifters, Little.”

“I hope the custodial sentence imposed offers some respite for local businesses which have suffered significant financial loss because of her offending.”

Sgt Meldrum added: “We will continue relentlessly pursuing these individuals who have a negative impact on our communities.”
