Grandparents across Tees Valley are being offered specialist support to help them better understand and support grandchildren with autism and ADHD.

The Owl Centre Charity is delivering a new programme called Grandparenting Differently, funded by the Tees Valley Foundation.

It aims to help grandparents across Tees Valley gain confidence and knowledge in supporting children with autism or ADHD.

Charlotte Forsyth, trustee at The Owl Centre Charity, said: "Grandparents often want to help but may feel unsure about what their grandchild needs or how best to support them and their parents.

"Grandparenting Differently creates space to ask questions, learn together and build confidence.

"We want grandparents to feel better equipped to connect with their grandchildren, celebrate their strengths and support them through everyday challenges."

The scheme also supports families as a whole by helping grandparents understand how to communicate with their grandchildren and recognise their individual needs.

Sessions will be held at the Newtown Resource Centre on Durham Road, Stockton-on-Tees, between November 16 and 20.

The programme offers a supportive environment for grandparents to learn, ask questions, and share experiences with others in similar situations.

It is designed to help them understand the diagnoses, communication needs, and emotional wellbeing of their grandchildren.
