Parents urged to speak to their children after incidents in Selby Park

Police are asking for the community’s support following reports of antisocial behaviour and vandalism in Selby Park.

There has been damage to park facilities, fires have been started and young people have been climbing onto buildings.

This is what Selby officers have been saying about this:

“If you know your child regularly hangs around Selby Park, particularly during the evenings, please take a few minutes to speak with them about where they are, what they are doing and the impact their behaviour can have on others.

“What may seem like a bit of fun can have real consequences.

“Causing damage, setting fires, attempting to enter buildings or engaging in other antisocial behaviour may result in police involvement and further action where those responsible are identified.

“The park is there for everyone to enjoy, and damage to community facilities affects the whole community.

“Please report incidents to North Yorkshire Police via 101 or online and always call 999 if there is an immediate risk to life or property.”
