A County Durham-born music producer credited with shaping the sound of a generation is set to return home as part of a spoken-word tour celebrating his remarkable career.

Trevor Horn, who grew up in Durham City and is often described as 'the man who invented the 80s,' will appear at Gala Durham on Saturday, October 31, with Adventures in Modern Recording.

The spoken-word tour follows the release of his memoir Adventures in Modern Recording: From ABC to ZTT and takes audiences behind the scenes of his decades-long career in music.

The show marks a homecoming for Mr Horn, who was born in Hetton-le-Hole.

He is best known for his work with artists including Seal, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, ABC, Dollar, Malcolm McLaren, t.A.T.u., Hans Zimmer, Marc Almond, and Tori Amos.

Mr Horn said: "I had a brilliant time on my recent tour, and thoroughly enjoyed sharing the stories of my career.

"When I was asked if I’d return next year with more stories, I didn’t need to think twice."

His career began with a number one hit as part of The Buggles on Video Killed the Radio Star, before he joined Yes and went on to become one of the most influential producers of the 1980s.

His accolades include four BRIT Awards and a Grammy in 1995 for Seal’s Kiss From a Rose.

Lizzie Glazier, artistic director of Gala Durham, said: "We are so pleased to be welcoming the incredible Trevor Horn back to his home in the North East, and this production will be another must-see at Gala Durham.
