The wet weather is expected to develop across southern and central Scotland before dawn – including Glasgow and Edinburgh - before spreading into the north-east during the morning and early afternoon.

Between 20mm and 40mm of rain is forecast to fall across much of the warning area, while some locations could see totals of between 60mm and 80mm.

The downpours are likely to lead to difficult travelling conditions and could cause flooding in some areas.

The heaviest and most persistent outbreaks are expected during the morning and early afternoon, when rainfall totals will rapidly accumulate.

Motorists have been urged to take extra care on the roads, with surface water and spray potentially reducing visibility and increasing journey times.

The rain is expected to gradually ease later in the day, becoming lighter before clearing from western areas during the evening and overnight period.

While the worst of the conditions should move away by Saturday, residents in areas prone to flooding are being advised to remain aware of the forecast and any local weather warnings.
