A MUCH-LOVED York museum is set to bring the feeling of Christmas Eve anticipation to the city centre this year.
York Castle Museum has revealed that visitors can step into a world where every day feels like the night before Christmas, with the annual event set to run from November 14 to January 3, 2027.
Carla Starkey, immersive interpretation producer at York Castle Museum, said: "We are so excited for Christmas this year at York Castle Museum, making every day feel like the night before Christmas.
- Thousands worth of 'stolen' LEGO, chocolate and alcohol found - three arrested
- 'Here’s to York' - band to celebrate anniversary with biggest ever headline show
"We really wanted to capture the excitement that many people feel, the gifts, the food, the traditions of Victorian England, some of which we still do today.
"There will be performances, extra goodies in the shop windows on Kirkgate to spot and of course the new decorations from Spatial Projects to give visitors a sense of what might be going on behind the Kirkgate doors in preparation for Christmas and get everyone in the festive spirit."
This year’s display will feature festive goods in shop windows, a grand tree, and twinkling garlands - along with historical dining rooms set for 17th and 18th-century feasts, Victorian parlours, and 20th-century decorations.

Hidden snickets will be decked in frosty decorations, adding to the festive atmosphere, and allowing families to explore the wintery cityscape.
A new addition for 2026, designed by Spatial Projects, will bring Kirkgate to life with shadows and silhouettes of residents preparing for Christmas, decorating their trees, and sharing a mistletoe kiss.
The museum will once again host its popular one-man performances of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, featuring the return of Ebeneezer Scrooge.

There will also be chances for families to meet Father Christmas in his traditional green attire - just like generations have done over the years.
These will run throughout November and December, including an exclusive evening event for adults, musical and carol singer events (with festive tunes from different eras), craft workshops, and Edwyrdian Tales - a night of traditional Victorian ghost stories.
Visitors can create their own wreath and greeting cards to take home a piece of festive decor.
