Whitby has been named one of the UK’s top destinations for an autumn getaway.

The North Yorkshire seaside town ranked fifth in holidaycottages.co.uk’s most booked locations for the October half-term, and was also listed among the UK’s top 10 most revisited destinations.

According to the booking platform, 16.41 per cent of visitors to Whitby over the past two years have returned for another stay.

Sarah Pring, digital PR manager at holidaycottages.co.uk, said: "Whitby is a destination that really comes into its own during the October half-term, when its dramatic coastline, rich history and Gothic atmosphere make it an exciting place for families to explore.

"With Halloween falling during the school holiday period, its links to Dracula and its atmospheric abbey offer something a little different from a traditional seaside break, giving families the chance to combine fresh coastal walks and local attractions with a touch of spooky adventure."

Whitby’s appeal includes its famous 199 steps, historic abbey ruins, and connections to Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

The town’s blend of coastal scenery and Gothic heritage makes it a particularly popular choice during the autumn season.
