North Yorkshire councillors set to get a rise in allowance payments

An inflation-linked rise in councillor allowances has been recommended.

The independent panel that annually reviews allowances has proposed that the basic allowance should be £18,431 for the 2027/28 financial year.

Currently the basic allowance is £17,964.

The panel has recommended the increase so that member allowances fall in line with the annual Consumer Prices Index rate of inflation to June 2026, which is 2.6%.

Members of the executive will consider the panel’s proposals next week, before the recommendations go to the full council in November.
