Broadway Bradford teases new shops
A spokesperson for The Broadway Bradford said: "We can confirm that The Body Shop will be closing on October 24, and we will be announcing new retailers in the coming weeks."
History of The Body Shop
The history of The Body Shop in Bradford is closely linked to the development of The Broadway Shopping Centre, which opened in November 2015 following one of the city's largest retail regeneration projects.
When The Broadway launched, it brought a range of national retailers back into Bradford city centre, including The Body Shop, helping to strengthen the city's high street offering.
The Body Shop itself was founded in 1976 by Anita Roddick in Brighton and grew into one of the UK's most recognisable beauty brands.
The company built its reputation on cruelty-free products, ethical sourcing and campaigns promoting environmental and social responsibility.
As the brand expanded across the UK, it established a presence in major shopping destinations, including Bradford.
The opening of the store in The Broadway gave shoppers access to the retailer's range of skincare, cosmetics, fragrances and body care products within a modern city-centre setting.
Company went into administration
In 2024, the Body Shop hired administrators for the UK arm of its business, putting thousands of jobs at the cosmetics chain at risk.
The retailer, which at the time ran more than 200 shops across the UK appointed insolvency experts from FRP Advisory to oversee the process.
At the time, FRP said the administrators will "consider all options to find a way forward for the business" after years of financial struggles and amid a challenging backdrop for shoppers.
The chain continued to trade through stores and online during the administration process.
In September of that year, The Body Shop was rescued from administration by a consortium led by British tycoon Mike Jatania - Aurea.
The deal allowed 116 stores across the country, including the Bradford one, to continue trading.
Stores remain open on Briggate in Leeds City Centre and on Skipton's High Street.
