Rail passengers travelling across the North East are being warned of major disruption over two weekends as engineering work takes place on key routes.

Replacement bus services will operate on sections of the Tees Valley Line, TransPennine Express network and the East Coast Main Line on selected dates in late October and early November.

On Sunday, October 25, buses will replace trains between Middlesbrough, Redcar and Saltburn on the Tees Valley Line.

Meanwhile, TransPennine Express services will be affected on October 24 and 25, with replacement buses running between Saltburn, Redcar, Middlesbrough and York.

Passengers travelling on the East Coast Main Line will also face changes on October 24 and 25, with buses operating between Darlington, York and Leeds or Doncaster.

A second weekend of disruption is planned for October 31 and November 1.

While no replacement bus service has been listed for the Tees Valley Line during that weekend, TransPennine Express passengers will again need to use buses between Saltburn, Redcar, Middlesbrough and York.

East Coast Main Line services will also be replaced by buses between Darlington, York and Leeds or Doncaster on both days.

Passengers are being urged to check their journey before travelling by contacting their train operator, visiting a ticket office or using National Rail journey planning services.
