North East musician Sam Fender has sent fans into a frenzy after confirming a major stadium tour for 2027 following a series of cryptic teasers.

North Shields-born Mercury Prize winner Sam Fender confirmed next year's tour in a video posted to social media inspired by The Lord of the Rings.

The video shows Fender's bandmates Dean Thompson and Joe Atkinson inside St James' Park with Newcastle saxophone player Johnny Blue Hat.

Thompson and Atkinson activate flames to shoot up from inside the Newcastle stadium before appearing at Manchester's Etihad Stadium, Cardiff's Principality Stadium, Edinburgh's Murrayfield, Wembley Stadium and Malahide Castle in Ireland.

These shots hint at stadiums Fender will appear at in his upcoming tour. The caption reads: "The beacons are lit".

The video ends with Fender finishing his pint and leaving, revealing a link to his website behind him.

The North East singer's website now includes a countdown to tomorrow morning (October 21) along with a sign-up form for his mailing list.

Bandmate Dean Thompson commented on the announcement with a reference to Lord of the Rings actor Elijah Woods' viral moment: "Do you wear wigs?"

The announcement sparked praise for its creativity, with one fan writing: "Everyone involved in creating this needs a raise immediately."

Welsh comedian Sam Cornforth wrote: "My friend, you bow to nee one."

Potential tour plans include what would be Fender's largest performance to date at London's 90,000-capacity Wembley Stadium.

The anticipated announcement from Fender comes after fans spotted SF27 branding appear around St James' Park and on his website.

He was also spotted in the Newcastle United stadium in a Lord of the Rings-inspired costume, which was shared by fans who began to speculate what he was planning.

The North East musician's peers have also reacted to the announcement strongly, with Newcastle band Leazes commenting: "This is the single coolest announcement video ever created!"

Fender's 2025 People Watching Tour saw him perform at venues across the globe, but football stadiums outside of St James' Park are still uncharted territory for the musician.

Sam Fender has previously performed at St James' Park in June 2023, returning in June 2025 with Olivia Dean among the supporting acts.

Reports have also linked Fender with a headline appearance at Glastonbury 2027, although this remains unconfirmed.

No official dates or tickets have been released yet, but fans are encouraged to keep an eye on Fender's website for updates.
