A North Yorkshire town is set to welcome the region's premier orchestras as part of a packed festive programme featuring well-known music, television and dance stars.

Richmond will host the Royal Northern Sinfonia on Friday, November 27, as part of the orchestra’s annual winter tour, which brings seasonal music to communities across the North East and Cumbria.

The concert will take place at St Mary the Virgin and will feature a programme of string orchestra favourites, including Mendelssohn’s String Symphony No. 2, Walton’s Sonata for Strings and Dvořák’s Serenade for Strings, all performed under candlelight.

Jo Thornson, director of contemporary music at The Glasshouse, said: "This year's programme brings together much-loved favourites alongside exciting new experiences, whether that's introducing children to The Snowman, sharing a festive night out with friends or enjoying world-class live music together."

The Richmond concert is part of The Glasshouse’s broader Christmas 2026 programme, which runs from November 26 to January 1 and features more than a month of concerts, family shows and seasonal favourites.

The Royal Northern Sinfonia’s winter tour will also visit Redcar, Sunderland, Hartlepool, Hexham, Alnwick, Carlisle and Berwick.

After the tour, the orchestra will return to The Glasshouse for a series of Christmas concerts and film screenings.

The programme includes appearances by former Spandau Ballet frontman Tony Hadley, North East television presenter Matt Baker and folk singer Kate Rusby.

Strictly Come Dancing star Gorka Márquez will headline the new show Xmas on the Dancefloor, and festive film favourites Home Alone in Concert and The Snowman in Concert will also return.

For the first time, audiences will be able to enjoy Home Alone 2: Lost in New York Live in Concert and Disney’s The Muppet Christmas Carol in Concert.
