NHS careers event in North East to showcase hundreds of roles

People considering an NHS career can attend a free event showcasing the wide range of jobs across the health service.

The NHS careers evening will run at the Health and Social Care Academy, University Hospital of Hartlepool, on Tuesday, October 27, from 5pm to 7.50pm.

Hosted by University Hospitals Tees, the event is for people seeking their first job, considering a career change or exploring future opportunities.

Suzanne Coyle-Watson, careers coordinator at University Hospitals Tees, said: "Choosing a career can feel overwhelming, especially when you're not sure what options are available or where to start.

"This event gives people the chance to have honest conversations with staff who have been in their shoes and can share their own career journeys.

"The NHS needs people with all kinds of skills, interests and backgrounds, and this is a great opportunity to ask questions, make connections and find out where a career in healthcare could take you."

Visitors can meet healthcare professionals, education partners and recruitment specialists to learn about career paths, training and current vacancies.

Ms Colf said: "The scientific field is always evolving so you have to be on your toes all the time.

"For someone like me who loves learning, being able to implement that in my day-to-day job is fantastic."

She began her NHS journey with a foundation year in biomedical science at Teesside University after a health condition stopped her completing her A levels.

She later completed a master’s degree and built a laboratory science career across the UK.

Mr Stokes said: "What I love most about my role is that every day is different.

"It's rewarding to see the impact these teams have on patient care, often behind the scenes, and the crucial role they play in delivering the best possible experience for our patients."

Mr Stokes began his NHS career as a domestic assistant at The James Cook University Hospital in 2010 and has since held several roles.

He now oversees portering, domestic and transport services at two hospital sites.

The event will also showcase clinical careers, including physiotherapy.

Senior physiotherapists Sophie Andelin and Georgia Walker, who work in critical care at the University Hospital of North Tees, will speak at the event.

Ms Andelin said: "You get to see and support patients on their journey – from being critically unwell to getting up on their feet, and seeing how proud their families are.

"That is really rewarding."

Ms Walker added: "Everyone working on the unit is so friendly and knowledgeable.

"You're constantly learning and they're all so willing to teach.

"I love it here."

Visitors can explore careers in physiotherapy, healthcare science, estates and facilities and more.
