A rising star of the classical music world is set to perform in Darlington.

Ethan Loch, a blind pianist and finalist of the BBC Young Musician of the Year, will give a recital at Central Hall in the Dolphin Centre on Sunday, November 1, at 3pm.

Mr Loch, who began playing piano at the age of four, graduated with first-class honours from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

He was also named the most outstanding music student of his graduating year.

Greg Johnson, chairman of Darlington Piano Society, said: "Classical music doesn’t have appeal to many people, particularly amongst younger generations, but Ethan’s recital highlights the young talent that is graduating from our music colleges.

"It would be wonderful to see more youngsters at this and our other recitals, with U21s having free entry to the concerts."
