County Durham residents are being invited to help shape the future of their communities after three areas secured millions of pounds of Government regeneration funding.

Crook North and Tow Law, Peterlee East and South Stanley will each receive £20 million over ten years through the Government’s Pride in Place regeneration programme.

Durham County Council is asking residents what they think of the vision outlined in draft plans for each area, before deciding how to spend the money.

Councillor Karen Allison, Durham County Council’s Cabinet member for leisure, tourism, regeneration and high street, said: "We want to use the Pride in Place programme to deliver real improvements that matter most to local people.

"The plans we develop for each of the Pride in Place areas will be shaped directly by the residents, businesses, and community groups that live and work in them.

"Communities will be able to spend the funding on what matters most to them – from improvements to pavements and high streets to investing in culture and green spaces.

"That’s why it’s really important that people engage with this consultation and tell us what they think of the vision for their area."
