Plans have been submitted to expand Crossbasket Castle Hotel in High Blantyre, with proposals for additional bedrooms, leisure facilities and 12 cabins overlooking the River Calder.
Crossbasket Castle Holdings Ltd lodged the application with South Lanarkshire Council on September 24, with the plans validated on October 9.
The proposals would see a new accommodation building constructed alongside the existing hotel, providing 28 additional bedrooms alongside swimming and leisure facilities, and a landscaped courtyard and kitchen garden.
A further 12 single-storey timber cabins are proposed within the grounds to the north of the hotel, set among existing woodland and overlooking the River Calder. Each cabin would feature a bedroom, living area, two bathrooms and a covered deck.

The plans also include changes to parking arrangements and associated access, drainage and landscaping works.
The application relates to the second and third phases of development at the site. The first phase, comprising a 40-bedroom hotel with bar and restaurant, was completed in March 2025 and is now operating.
If approved, the expansion would increase the hotel’s main bedroom provision from 40 to 68, alongside the 12 proposed cabins.
The application will be considered by South Lanarkshire Council.
