Scottish hospitality group Buzzworks has opened a new pub, restaurant and boutique hotel in North Berwick following a seven-figure refurbishment of the former Nether Abbey Hotel.
The Bass & Barrel opened on today, October 20, following an extensive transformation designed to create a welcoming local venue with food, drink and accommodation.
The venue features a pub and restaurant alongside 12 boutique bedrooms, with the business open seven days a week.
The menu focuses on Scottish produce and coastal flavours, with dishes including grilled Scottish langoustines, seasonal lobster, fish and chips, Scotch steaks and a Sunday roast designed for four people to share.
The kitchen works with suppliers including Edgefield Craft Butchers, whose owner is from North Berwick.
The Bass & Barrel forms part of Buzzworks’ House Collection and was designed by internationally acclaimed designer Jim Hamilton, combining relaxed hospitality with stylish accommodation.
The opening adds to Buzzworks’ portfolio of 25 bars and restaurants across Scotland. The group employs more than 800 people and operates brands including Scotts, Lido and Herringbone.
The company has also recently acquired The Bonnie Badger, South Beach Hotel, The Douglas Hotel and The Royal George Hotel.

Kenny Blair, chief executive of Buzzworks, said: "We’re absolutely delighted to finally open the doors to The Bass & Barrel and welcome the North Berwick community into the new venue.
"A huge amount of work has gone into transforming the former Nether Abbey Hotel, and we’re incredibly proud to bring it into a new chapter.
"We wanted to create somewhere that feels like a proper local, with a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere where people can come together, feel at home and enjoy spending time.
"We can’t wait for everyone to come in, experience The Bass & Barrel for themselves and hopefully make it a place they’ll return to time and time again."
