PEDESTRIANS will face temporary disruption as a section of a main footpath near York Minster has closed for tree felling work.

The works, City of York Council said, are in place between the projected south-western boundaries of properties No. 3 and No. 4 High Petergate.

The closure came into force at 9am on Monday (October 19) , and is scheduled to remain in place until 5pm on Wednesday (October 21), although it could reopen sooner if the work is completed early.

The council said the temporary restriction is needed to allow tree felling works to be carried out safely.

Traffic signs and barriers will be in place to mark the affected area, while a signed diversion route will be provided for pedestrians throughout the works period.

It is expected that the footpath will be closed between 9am and 5pm each day while work is taking place.

The notice does not prevent access for emergency services or for works within the closure area. Access to nearby premises will also be maintained where it is safe and practical to do so.
