Yorktoberfest, York’s traditional Bavarian beer festival, got off to a flying start this weekend at York Racecourse.
The annual event was staged inside a Big Top for the first time, and partygoers were treated to the spectacle of aerial artist Zoe Kulyk twisting and tumbling from the rooftop.
Also in full flight was drag artist Velma Celli, who kept the crowd on their toes with her powerhouse singing and quick-fire critique of the costumes on display.

Live oompah band The Bavarian Strollers had everyone joining in traditional drinking songs and dancing into the night with their thigh-slapping, foot-stomping oompah tunes as well as feel-good disco classics.
Event organiser, James Cundall, CEO of Jamboree Entertainment, said “Staging Yorktoberfest in a Big Top for the first time has really ramped up the party atmosphere!
“The feedback from our first weekend has been superb, with many people commenting on the high-energy festive vibe, not to mention the fantastic entertainment line-up complete with a circus-themed aerial display!”
A variety of beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks are available at The Bavarian Bar as well as German-inspired food from The Dog Haus.
Yorktoberfest’s final weekend takes place this Friday 23 and Saturday 24 October.
Prices are £25 per person for standard and £35 for VIP. Tickets are available here.
