York Environment Festival is underway in York – and has scores of things to do, including over half term.
It kicked off 3 October, but there’s loads left to do and try before the last day on Sunday, 1 November.
With schools breaking up on Friday, this includes plenty of half-term friendly events, including river trails, gardening groups and activities at York Minster.
The programme is in venues all around the city, from eco crafting, improving local green spaces and even enjoying a sound bath.
Whether you’re wanting to educate yourself, embrace sustainability or simply get out of the house and into nature there is an activity for everyone.
Booking is required for some sessions so ensure you check out the York Environment Festival events calendar.
The festival’s inaugural year was 2020. Back then it lasted one week with about 30 online events amid the Covid outbreak.

The programme has grown ever since.
It’s run entirely by volunteers. “Everyone on the team cares passionately about the need to increase climate action across the city,” a festival spokesperson told YorkMix.
Funded by Two Ridings Community Foundation and City of York Council’s Community Fund, the festival’s resource guide is available to pick up at various businesses throughout the city as well as online.
The festival spokesperson said it had never been more important to be mindful about the environment.
“In York we’ve experienced temperatures of over 34 degrees this summer affecting our day to day activities and health. Getting more informed and involved, and taking action together with others helps us all.”
“We invite you all to be part of the journey towards a better city, where both people and nature can thrive for generations to come”.
