A North Yorkshire performing arts school has won a top business award.
Perfect Pitch Stars Performing Arts have won The Best New Business Award at the Children’s Activities Business Awards, which took place on Saturday 10 October at the National Conference Centre in Birmingham.
The award win cones after a ‘difficult few weeks’ for the performing arts school, after unexpectedly having to leave its previous premises at Scarthingwell Courtyard, near Tadcaster.
It has now found a new home – and opened a dedicated studio at Leeds East Airport in Church Fenton.
Perfect Pitch Stars Performing Arts was founded by experienced performing arts teacher and examiner Lisa Goodall. Perfect Pitch Stars was established in 2023 following Lisa’s career of almost 20 years teaching performing arts in secondary education, including working as a Head of Drama and Performing Arts.
But just a year after moving into the new studio, Lisa faced the possibility of having nowhere to run her growing programme of classes.
Perfect Pitch Stars had a full timetable of children’s and adult classes, students preparing for examinations and young performers rehearsing for its forthcoming production of School of Rock Youth Edition when Lisa learned she would need to find alternative premises.
With very little time to secure a suitable venue, she approached local organisations, including the council, for help identifying potential premises, but ultimately had to continue the search independently.
Once the premises at Leeds East Airport in Church Fenton were secured, another challenge began – getting the new studio ready in time for classes.
With the help of family, friends and supportive Perfect Pitch Stars parents, the space was transformed into a dedicated performing arts studio, allowing classes to continue with minimal disruption.
“The last few months have been so hard finding new premises, running show rehearsals, exams and competitions but being with the children each week and creating is always what keeps me going,” said Lisa.
“It means so much that we have come through the otherside as an award winning business with lovely new premises.
“As we are not a large franchise just a small community it means so much to be recognised nationally within our small part of the world and be seen for doing good things”
Rather than simply replacing its former premises, Lisa hopes the new studio will allow Perfect Pitch Stars to broaden what it can offer the local community.
Plans include a new Saturday morning Drama and Musical Theatre Clubs for children aged 5–11, with the possibility of an additional class for older children if there is sufficient demand.
Perfect Pitch Stars Performing Arts welcomes children, young people and adults from Church Fenton, Sherburn in Elmet, Tadcaster, Selby and surrounding communities.
