ELECTRONIC music legends Kratwerk are heading for Piece Hall next summer.

Following their hit worldwide concert tours, the electro pioneers have announced they will bring their visionary live show to the historic Halifax venue on Tuesday, June 22, 2027.

The celebrated multi-media project is the latest event announced for next year's Live at The Piece Hall.

This summer, Kraftwerk played a special open air concert for the 100th anniversary of the legendary Bauhaus art school in Germany. Bringing together electronic music, computer animations and performance art, their concerts are a true 'Gesamtkunstwerk' - a 'total work of art.'

Kraftwerk was started in 1970 by Ralf Huetter and Florian Schneider. They set up their electronic Kling Klang Studio in Düsseldorf, where they produced all Kraftwerk albums.

By the mid-1970s Kraftwerk had international recognition for their revolutionary electronic soundscapes and musical experimentation, including robotics.

Their compositions, using innovative techniques, synthetic voices and computerised rhythms, had a major influence across a range of music genres, from electro to hip hop, techno to synth pop.

In their live performances, Kraftwerk founder Ralf Huetter and his team "illustrate the belief in the respective contributions of both man and machine".

Starting with a retrospective of their catalogue at New York’s Museum of Modern Art in 2012, in recent years Kraftwerk have returned to their origins in the Düsseldorf art scene of the late 1960s.

The 3-D concert series at MoMA was followed by presentations at venues including Tate Modern, Sydney Opera House and Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao. In 2014 Huetter and his former partner received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and in 2021 Kraftwerk were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Nicky Chance-Thompson, CEO of The Piece Hall Charitable Trust, said: “The Piece Hall is often described as a piece of living history, now we're getting ready to welcome some genuine history makers to our unique heritage site.

"Fans of any kind of electronic music owe a huge debt to these trailblazing pioneers, who wrote the blueprint for so many genres.

"Famed for their spectacular immersive shows, with sounds and visuals which still feel like they’re at the cutting-edge decades later, I can imagine how potent and powerful this performance will be in our stunning setting.”

Live at The Piece Hall 2027 will also see headliner shows from Pete Tong Ibiza Classics, Suki Waterhouse, Rudimental, Bananarama, Slash, Rick Astley, The Saw Doctors, Kaiser Chiefs, Alfie Boe, Ronan Keating, Jack Savoretti, James Morrison and three nights with Simply Red.
