North East seafront restaurant forced to close after third break-in in 10 months

The Boathouse and Terrace restaurant in Redcar has been forced to close yet again, after being broken into for the third time in ten months.

A North East restaurant has been forced to close yet again after being broken into for the third time in just 10 months.

The Boathouse and Terrace in Redcar announced it would be unable to open today (Monday, October 19) following the latest break-in, with CCTV capturing footage of the two people believed to be responsible.

The repeated incidents have taken both a financial and emotional toll on those behind the business, leaving them worried about whether the restaurant will be targeted again.

The Boathouse and Terrace hopes to reopen tomorrow (Tuesday, October 20), and will update customers on its Facebook page.

Responding to the news on Facebook, Redcar councillor Alec Brown said: "I love this little business, every time I go in there, it's warm friendly and a lovely space to sit and chill. Even when the model boat lads are giving me grief over the water!

"As it is a council-owned building, I have instructed the assets team to install electric security shutters for the operator and her staff to continue providing this wonderful little space on our seafront."

It has been little over than a month since the seafront venue was forced to temporarily close following a break-in during the early hours of Sunday, September 6.

The break-in came just hours after The Boathouse had hosted a wedding celebration and left a window smashed.

Following the incident, the owners said they had worked all day to reopen and were determined not to let it define the venue.

Staff spent the following day preparing the venue to reopen, welcoming customers back at 9am on the Monday.

Customers rallied around the business, with dozens leaving messages of support following the break-in.

Just weeks later, The Boathouse and Terrace has been targeted again - but the restaurant had said installing shutters is not as simple as some may suggest and stressed that CCTV is already in place.

The latest break-in means further costs for the small independent restaurant, both from the damage caused and another day of lost business.

With Cllr Brown suggesting support could be available to help install electric shutters, The Boathouse is likely hoping the latest break-in will be its last.
