While shopping habits have changed beyond recognition over the last century, one Darlington business has continued to serve generations of customers from the same town centre location.
Taylor's Butchers celebrated its centenary in 2022, marking 100 years since the Taylor family first began trading in Darlington Market.
Today, the Skinnergate shop remains a familiar sight in the heart of the town, where regular customers still call in for traditional cuts of meat, locally sourced produce and advice from staff they know and trust.
The business traces its roots back to 1922, when the Taylor family started out with a market stall.

What began as a modest venture steadily grew into one of the town's best-known independent retailers and a name recognised by generations of Darlington shoppers.
Over the decades, Taylor's has witnessed huge changes in the way people buy food.
From the rise of supermarkets and retail parks to the emergence of online grocery delivery, the retail landscape has been transformed.
More recently, independent businesses have also faced increasing pressure from rising energy, staffing and supply costs.
Despite those challenges, Taylor's has remained a constant presence on the high street.
Its ability to adapt while maintaining the traditional values on which it was built has helped the business continue to thrive.
For many customers, Taylor's represents more than just a butcher's shop.
Families who visited decades ago have introduced new generations to the business, creating a sense of continuity that is becoming increasingly rare on modern high streets.

The company later expanded beyond Darlington, opening shops in Framwellgate Moor, Ferryhill, Richmond, Belmont, Newton Hall, Middlesbrough and Blackhall, extending its reputation across the region.
By the time the business celebrated its centenary, the fifth generation of the Taylor family had become involved, with James, Alex and Andrew Taylor helping to carry forward a legacy that stretches back more than a century.
As Darlington's town centre continues to evolve, Taylor's remains an enduring example of an independent business that has adapted with the times while staying true to its roots.
