North East deli closes after 13 years serving Italian treats to the local community

The Village Deli in Hartburn has shut for the final time after 13 years - with owners confirming that the catering side of the business will continue as usual.

A beloved Teesside deli has closed its doors after more than a decade of serving the community.

The Village Deli in Hartburn, Stockton, shut for the final time on Sunday, October 11, after 13 years in business.

The deli was known for its Italian coffee, sweet treats, and popular themed pizza nights that attracted customers from across Teesside.

In a statement on social media, the owners said: "The time has come for us to move on.

"Thank you so much to all our wonderful customers for your support over the years and to our fabulous staff, past and present, who made the deli what it is.

"Thank you all for your kind words, hugs, cards, and gifts over the last few days.

"It’s meant the world to us to see how much the deli was loved."

Owned by Victoria Di Gregorio, The Village Deli first opened in September 2013.

Just six months after opening, the deli faced a planning dispute after a neighbouring business objected to the use of tables and chairs inside and outside the premises, citing concerns about parking and traffic congestion.

The deli secured planning permission and continued to expand, branching into catering and introducing popular themed events such as pizza nights.

While the deli has now closed, the Village Deli catering services will continue as normal.

The owners said: "If you have catering booked, please don’t worry as it is business as usual for the catering side."

Customers can still order Italian food through the deli’s website, and the team has promised the return of its popular Christmas boxes and brie for 2026, with orders opening soon.
