A woman has died after a three-vehicle crash on the A1.
Police and paramedics were called to the major road near Felton, in Northumberland, shortly after midday on Sunday (October 18) following a crash.
It took place when a white Nissan Qashqai car travelling northbound collided with a red Renault Clio car and a white Tesla Model Three, which were both travelling southbound.
Tragically, the female driver of the Clio was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers.
The male driver of the Qashqai sustained minor injuries and after being taken to hospital for treatment was later discharged.
A passenger of the Qashqai sustained serious injuries and after being taken to hospital for treatment was also later discharged.
Four occupants of the Tesla sustained injuries not believed to be serious.
A section of the A1 in the area of Felton was closed in both directions for around nine hours, but the road has since reopened.
Northumbria Police said it is trying to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash and are now appealing for witnesses to get in touch.
Officers are particularly keen to hear from anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage of the moments leading up to the collision.
Sergeant Greg Huntley, of Northumbria Police, said: “Our thoughts are firmly with the family and loved ones of the woman who has sadly died in this tragic collision.
“We will continue to offer them all the support they need and would ask that their privacy is respected at this time.”
Sgt Huntley added: “We are now appealing for further information and for anyone with dashcam footage of the vehicles involved to come forward.
