A drug-addicted Shildon woman swiped booze and groceries as she targeted the same Darlington store twice.

Lara Moss pleaded guilty to two shoplifting charges at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (October 15).

The 37-year-old stole groceries worth £100 from Heron Foods in Darlington on June 23.

Two days later she trurned and made off with laundry products, alcohol and Nivea sets of an unknown value.

Prosecutor George Johnston said Moss had 18 previous convictions.

Her barrister, Stephen Andrews, said Moss was thoroughly ashamed of her shoplifting but was trying to get help to tackle her drug addiction.

He said: "It would seem that there has been somewhat of a sea change of late.

"She was the one who approached the probation service at the start of these proceedings."

District Judge Steven Hood said: "You should be applauded for coming off the drugs.

"I recognise that is not an easy thing to do.
