Mr Begbie began his banking career almost 50 years ago, aged 16, at the Royal Bank of Scotland’s Musselburgh branch.
He has since held senior positions within the business, most recently leading NatWest Group’s Commercial & Institutional division through a period the bank described as strong performance and strategic progress.
In his new role, he will continue to advise the business while focusing on relationships with customers, government and other stakeholders across Scotland.

He will also work with teams across the bank to support its business plans and raise its profile among its two million retail customers and 110,000 business clients.
Mr Begbie’s appointment forms part of wider leadership changes at NatWest Group. Isabelle Girolami has been named chief executive of Commercial & Institutional and is due to join the Group Executive Committee on January 1, 2027, subject to regulatory approval.
