CHALLENGES facing the hospitality industry have prompted plans for changes at a York venue.
An application to create 11 guest bedrooms above The Terrace sports bar, in New Street, has been submitted to City of York Council.
Plans from the bar stated the changes would improve the bar's economic viability, provide extra accommodation in the city centre and contribute to its vitality.
The works would see the unused first and second floors of the New Street building converted to house the double bedrooms if the council approves the plans.

Each room would have its own ensuite.
The accommodation would cover a combined area of 240sqm.
Rooms planned as part of the works would be a mix of sizes, ranging from the smallest at around 14sqm to the largest which would be almost 31sqm.
There are no alterations proposed to the bar itself, which has been based in New Street since 2023 when it moved from Fossgate.

The bar is run by a long-serving York publican, Paul Gardner, who has thirty years of experience as a landlord in pubs in the city and surrounding villages.
Plans stated: "The proposed eleven letting bedrooms will bring currently unused areas of the first and second floors into appropriate commercial use.
"They will provide additional income during and beyond the current harsh economic climate being experienced by the hospitality sector."
