A person has been rescued from a burning kitchen in York.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews from Acomb, Huntington, and Harrogate responded to reports of a fire in Water Lane, York at 11.03pm last night (Sunday, October 18).

On arrival, the crews found the person in a smoke-logged room, but conscious, and led them to safety, a service spokesperson said.

Three other people were checked by paramedics at the scene.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said the fire was believed to have been caused by items left on a gas hob, caused significant damage to the kitchen and smoke damage elsewhere.

A thermal imaging camera was used throughout to check for hotspots, and a positive pressure ventilation fan was used to ventilate the property.
