A FRESH start is on the horizon for young people who need a helping hand.

Pudsey-based Building Futures Together (BFT) has secured £44,158.80 through the Healthy Working Life grant programme to support 30 economically inactive young people aged 16 to 24 in developing construction skills and improving their employment prospects.

John Thornton, managing director and co-founder of BFT, said: "Too many young people with health conditions or disabilities face barriers that can make the move into employment feel out of reach.

"Through this funding we can provide 30 young people with the practical skills, confidence and individual support they need to take their first or next step into employment."

The programme, funded by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and led locally by Leeds City Council, focuses on young people with health conditions or disabilities that create barriers to employment.

Participants will complete at least 120 hours of training at BFT’s new Wortley facility.

A further £6,000 has been allocated to support six learners with digital inclusion, covering the cost of laptops and training on using technology to access work opportunities.

Dominique Burley, senior development worker at Forum Central, said: "Building Futures Together is one of the grantholders, playing a large role in supporting young people with health conditions or disabilities."
