A woman left her mum's pal with a split lip after repeatedly punching her in in the face during a boozy night in.

Katie Jardine had enjoyed a night drinking at her mum's home in Spennymoor on July 8 last year when the friend refused to leave, Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court heard.

The 26-year-old lost her temper and pinned the woman down on a sofa before repeatedly punched her in the face, prosecutor George Johnston said.

"She was unable to move and was unable to protect herself."

The victim was left with a bruised eye and a cut lip.

Jardine, of Sandalwood Square in Sunderland, admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm on July 8 last year.

John Clish, mitigating, said Jardine was still in partial denial about her alcohol issues but had not ruled out seeking help in the future.

District Judge Steven Hood said: "Drink had been taken by all of you and you accept that you were intoxicated.
