A REGULAR performer at Keighley Playhouse is set to star in a new stage production.
Julian Freeman, known for his work with Keighley Playhouse and Keighley Musical Theatre Society, stars in the role of Ralph in Frozen, a hard-hitting drama at Bingley Little Theatre (BLT).
Mr Freeman is a familiar face to Bingley audiences, having last appeared on the BLT main stage in Betty Blue Eyes.
What is Frozen about?
Frozen, written by Bryony Lavery, is described as a powerful drama exploring themes of abuse, grief, loss, guilt, remorse, and forgiveness.
In the play, a 10-year-old girl, Rhona, goes missing on the way to her grandmother's house.
The story then follows the lives of three characters over 20 years - Rhona’s mother, Nancy, who is paralysed by loss; Agnetha, an American-Icelandic psychologist researching serial killers; and Ralph, the predator who orchestrated the crime.
'A dark and intense piece of contemporary theatre'
Director Abbe Robinson has previously worked on several BLT productions including Hansard, My Boy Jack, and Underground.
She said: "Absolutely not to be confused with the popular Disney animated film of the same name, this is a dark and intense piece of contemporary theatre that I am excited to bring to the Theatre Upstairs at BLT.
"The writer’s ability to investigate the mind of a serial killer but also find humour and bring light and humanity into some very dark places, make the exploration of this work fascinating as well as uncomfortable."
Ms Robinson's background is in film, having served as an assistant director on films such as Calendar Girls, Asylum, and Brideshead Revisited.
She is also an award-winning writer and director of short films through her company Mad Cat Films.
Who makes up the cast?
Alongside Mr Freeman, the cast also includes Kate Maddison-Greenwell as Agnetha and Vani Midgley as Nancy.
Ms Maddison-Greenwell returns to The Theatre Upstairs after recent performances at Ilkley Playhouse.
Ms Midgley makes her BLT debut, though she is well-known at Ilkley Playhouse and has taken on a variety of roles in regional theatre.
The production will run from 26 to 31 October with performances starting at 7.30pm.
