A STRETCH of road in Yorkshire has been named among the most haunted in the UK.

The B1249 in the East Riding of Yorkshire is said to be home to a "nightmarish werewolf creature" according to a list compiled by DiscoverCars.com.

The list highlights some of the UK and Europe’s most haunted roads and the eerie folklore surrounding them.

The most well-known sighting was recorded in the 1960s by Charles Christian, who wrote about a lorry driver whose vehicle was destroyed by a "red-eyed hairy creature" that smashed his windscreen.

Further sightings have been reported since, including one in 2016 where a driver described seeing a Bigfoot-like figure.

Aleksandrs Buraks, head of growth at DiscoverCars.com, said: "As Halloween approaches, now is a great time to learn about the allegedly haunted roads near you, along with the haunting backstories behind them all.

"We found that there’s a huge amount of ghost stories and urban legends all across the UK, which make up much of our list.

"Be sure to drive slowly and carefully when driving at night.

"This may be especially important if you’re driving somewhere you feel uneasy or distracted."
