Long before millions of television viewers watched him search for romance in the Love Island villa, Luke Trotman was making a name for himself on the football pitch at Darlington FC.
The former Quakers defender remains one of the club's most unusual success stories of recent years, swapping National League North football for primetime television and becoming one of the best-known contestants in Love Island history.
Born in Luton, Trotman's football journey began with his hometown club, Luton Town.
A promising youngster, he progressed through the club's academy system and made his first-team debut as a teenager against Cambridge United in 2013.
His progress suffered a significant setback when he sustained a serious leg break during his youth career.
Rather than walking away from the game, Trotman balanced his ambitions in football with higher education, studying banking, finance and management at Loughborough University while continuing to play in non-league football.
Spells with St Neots Town and Nuneaton followed before Darlington moved to sign the talented right-back in November 2017.
It was at Blackwell Meadows that Trotman's reputation really grew.
Operating primarily as a right-back and wing-back, he became an important figure in the Darlington side and earned wider recognition across the non-league game.
His performances were rewarded with a call-up to the England C team, which selects players from outside the Football League, and he featured in internationals against Wales and Estonia.
Just as his career appeared to be gathering momentum, disaster struck again.
In August 2019, Trotman ruptured his Achilles tendon, an injury that required surgery and left him facing a lengthy spell on the side-lines.
Speaking during his recovery, he revealed he had fully ruptured the tendon and was expected to be out for months.
But while recovering from that injury, a very different opportunity came along.
In January 2020, the then-22-year-old entered ITV2's winter edition of Love Island as a bombshell contestant.
Trotman quickly became one of the programme's standout personalities, coupling up with fellow contestant Siânnise Fudge.
Their relationship proved hugely popular with viewers and the pair eventually finished as runners-up in the series final.
Back in Teesside, Darlington fans followed his progress with interest, with the club regularly updating supporters on his time in the villa.
One club article from February 2020 noted that "everyone else at Darlington FC" was supporting the defender during his time on the show.

Although many supporters remember Trotman for his performances in black and white, his spell on Love Island brought him national recognition that far exceeded the reach of non-league football.
Few former Darlington players can claim to have represented England C, played in front of packed crowds at Blackwell Meadows and then gone on to become one of the most recognisable faces ever to emerge from the Love Island villa.
For Luke Trotman, it is a career path unlike almost any other in the Quakers' recent history.
