Amanda Owen's daughter Edith faces new challenge as she juggles exams and business

Amanda Owen's daughter Edith is facing the challenge of balancing school exams with running her own business at the family's famous Ravenseat farm.

The teenager has taken charge of the cream tea operation, which welcomes walkers passing through the remote Swaledale property.

But with important exams approaching, Edith must now find time for revision alongside the responsibilities of helping run the business.

Edith has revived a tradition which began long before her family became famous through Our Yorkshire Farm.

For years, Amanda served refreshments to walkers travelling along the Coast to Coast route, with the remote farm becoming a popular stopping point.

Now her efforts to keep the business running are being documented as she prepares for the next stage of her education.

Speaking at Our Farm Next Door: A Behind-the-Scenes Celebration at Everyman Northallerton on September 30, Amanda revealed how Edith had transformed a relatively modest opportunity into something of her own.

She said: "We gave Edith the little pop-up serving hatch, and she's made a business out of it."

Amanda also joked about how important the original cream teas had been to the family's success.

She said: "It's an empire built on cups of tea really, where any good business starts."

The fourth series follows Edith as she prepares the cream tea van for walkers while also finding time to revise.

Details released ahead of the October 19 episode reveal her working alongside eldest sister Raven, who has returned to Ravenseat and is helping with the stables.

It is another example of the siblings supporting one another as their lives become increasingly different.

For Edith, running the cream teas means taking responsibility for a business closely associated with the family's history.

Amanda has previously explained that thousands of walkers pass through Ravenseat each year, with serving refreshments playing an important role in introducing visitors to the family's way of life.

Edith Owen's cream tea business has already caused family drama

The venture has not been without its amusing moments.

Amanda previously revealed that younger daughter Clemmie had been temporarily "fired" from the cream tea van after reacting less than enthusiastically to a customer asking for a photograph.

Speaking at the Northallerton event, Amanda explained that Clemmie had audibly sighed at the request, prompting Edith to decide she was no longer needed.

But Amanda suggested the dismissal might not be permanent.

She said: "Although she might well have another stint in the van, we'll have to see."

The incident illustrated how seriously Edith has been taking her responsibilities, even when the people helping her are members of her own family.

Amanda has spoken proudly about seeing her children develop their own interests and businesses.

She has compared Edith's progress with older brother Reuben, who turned his enthusiasm for machinery into his own working venture.

Amanda said: "It's exciting to see the children getting opportunities."

As Edith continues preparing for her exams, the cream tea business represents one of the clearest examples of the younger Owen generation beginning to make its own mark on Ravenseat.

And while the family's television fame may have helped bring visitors to the farm, Edith is now taking responsibility for keeping one of its oldest traditions alive.

Our Farm Next Door: Amanda, Clive and Kids continues on More4 on Monday, October 19, at 9pm.
