A County Durham dad is preparing to drive 1,000 miles to Spain to raise money for charity after his premature son spent more than 100 days in intensive care.
Jamie Lindsay, 37, will drive from Consett to Benalmádena, Spain, with his wife Kelly, son Hunter and their dog next May before returning home to raise money for Tiny Lives Trust.
Hunter was born on January 1, 2026, at 25 weeks and two days, weighing just 830 grams.
Hunter spent 107 days in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary before finally being allowed home.
Jamie Lindsay is fundraising for Tiny Lives.
As Hunter nears his first birthday, Jamie wants to give back to the charity that supported his family in and after hospital.
Jamie is paying all travel and accommodation costs himself, so the fundraiser will not pay for the family’s holiday.
He said: "I wanted to give something back.
"I decided because I've got a holiday booked for next year and we're driving because we're taking our dog, I thought I'd do this fundraiser.
"I'm paying for the fuel, the accommodation and the holiday.
"I just wanted to do a fundraiser as well.
"All the money raised will go to Tiny Lives."
Tiny Lives Trust supports premature and sick babies, their parents and families receiving care through the Newcastle Neonatal Service at the Royal Victoria Infirmary.
Reflecting on Hunter's start in life, Jamie said: "He was extremely premature, but he's an absolute miracle.
"You can't believe how well he is now.
"It's so rough on the neonatal unit and I just wanted to give something back to Tiny Lives for the support they've given my son and all the classes they do after."
The family will set off on May 10, driving across Europe to raise money and awareness for the charity.
Jamie is urging people to support the appeal.
He said: "I'd like you to join me in making a difference.
"Any donation will help make an impact and means so much to me and my family."
Tiny Lives Trust gives practical and emotional support to families whose babies need specialist care during the toughest moments of their lives.
