A driver who was caught speeding at 131mph on the A64 in North Yorkshire has been sentenced.
North Yorkshire Police said the man, who has not been named, was driving an Audi TT which hit the speed on the road at Barton-le-Willows, between York and Malton.
The force said he was caught by a police safety camera vehicle on Saturday, June 20.
A police spokesperson said the road, which has a speed limit of 70mph, is the “site of a significant number of previous collisions”.
The driver pleaded guilty to speeding and was ordered to pay fines and costs totalling £1,551, and given six penalty points at Harrogate Magistrates’ Court.
After the hearing, Richard Fletcher, from North Yorkshire Police, said: "Speed limits are set for a reason and exceeding them is illegal.
“We expect motorists to drive responsibly and resist driving at extreme speeds - the impact of doing so can be devastating."
