An eyewitness told The Press that he had initially seen a "commotion" from outside the Pavement Vaults pub and restaurant in York, shortly after 2pm today.
He said: "I was on my lunch break and had noticed the commotion along Piccadilly. It looked like the security guards had it under control, so I thought nothing more of it.
"However, when I returned 10 minutes later, I could see a police van, and an officer went back inside the pub. It’s not every day you see something like this at lunchtime. Hopefully the staff aren’t badly affected and are ok."
Police added that the man involved was later removed from the area.
