Passengers are left out in the cold - why does replacing a bus shelter take so long?

Passengers in York are being left out in the cold because of the delay in replacing a bus shelter - why? asks today's lead letter writer.

Why does replacing a bus shelter in York take so long?

Several months ago they removed a perfectly good bus shelter (to my mind) in Clarence Street, York, reinstated the footpath and installed new electronic timetable board, and then nothing for weeks and weeks - nothing.

Fortunately, the weather was fine, although the lack of seats was a problem for some but it was a good while before the replacement bus shelter arrived.

Recently the same scenario but opposite to the other one arose, taking down the old, installing signage, then nothing.

But this time it's autumn, cooler, wet, and with no coverage or seating - miserable.

Why can't the people involved in the removal and reinstating of the bus stop / new shelter liaise, cooperate?

A week from start to finish should be easily attainable. Why does it have to take so long, and cause so much incontinence to bus passengers?

Northern Lights photos lift our spirits

Congratulations and thanks to The Press Camera Club for the brilliant array of photos of that awesome phenomenon of the Northern Lights, (The Press, October 15, cleverly entitled Northern Delights).

Plus, what marvellous settings! Such images bring cheer, perspective and wonder, and perhaps even hope, and our spirits are uplifted in wonderment.

“Start the day The Press Cam'ra Club way!”

Why should we be forced to pay for the BBC?

In a country which cherishes freedom of choice, why in the 21st century are people with a television forced to pay a licence fee to fund the BBC when millions never tune in to any of their channels?

We’re Greens and we’re here to stay

Harrogate and Knaresborough Green Party respects Councillor Kevin Foster's decision to leave the party and thanks him for his contribution.

However, we are disappointed that the Liberal Democrats have been so quick to turn an individual's principled decision into a political recruitment opportunity.

Let's be clear: Harrogate and Knaresborough Green Party is not a party for the taking.

We are absolutely committed to the communities we serve.

Where other parties ask members to toe the party line, we see different perspectives as a strength and we don’t shy away from difficult conversations.

Our commitment to fairness, environmental responsibility and strong communities remains unchanged.

We will always put people and place above politics.

We’re Greens, and we’re here to stay.

We play it straight, and we get things done.
