York theatre unveils artwork from local artist

York artist Beth Elsdon has unveiled three original paintings from her new collection, Interlude, inspired by Grand Opera House York.

The three works of art are now on display in the theatre’s Box Office.

Following the success of several pieces influenced by the world of musical theatre, Beth was invited to create and exhibit work that celebrates the unique relationship between visual art and live performance.

The collaboration also shines a spotlight on York’s thriving cultural scene, demonstrating how the city’s artists, performers and venues continue to inspire one another.

Vicki Medhurst, acting theatre director at Grand Opera House York, said: “We’re delighted to showcase Beth’s artwork at Grand Opera House York. As one of York’s much-loved cultural venues, we’re proud to celebrate local artistic talent and create opportunities for audiences to engage with creativity in all its forms.

“This exhibition is also a wonderful way to begin looking ahead to our 125th anniversary celebrations next year, as we continue to honour the creativity and talent that make York such a special place to be.”

“I’m absolutely delighted to have my artwork displayed at Grand Opera House York,” said artist Beth.

“When I visited the theatre and learnt about its history, I was struck by the many stories held within its walls. Much like people, buildings carry so many experiences and chapters that aren’t always visible, but all contribute to what makes them so special.

“These three paintings are part of my new collection, Interlude, exploring the layers of our lives and the moments of pause between chapters. It’s incredibly special to see them displayed in the very place that inspired their creation.”

Beth Elsdon’s Centre Stage, The Gold Treasure in Your Soul andBehind the Curtain are available to view at the Grand Opera House York now for a limited time.
