A retired North Yorkshire couple are celebrating winning £1 million on the National Lottery.
The pair, from near Thirsk, won the cash in the EuroMillions UK Millionaire Maker draw on Tuesday 1 September.
The winner, who has chosen to remain anonymous, normally only plays Lotto HotPicks.
Bbut his wife had such a strong feeling he would win a prize that he decided to put a single line on the main EuroMillions draw.
That line was all it took, with his UK Millionaire Maker code making them millionaires.
The couple now plan to help their children and grandchildren with their future.
Speaking about the win, the winner said: “We still can’t quite believe it. All we want to do now is help the kids and grandkids for the future, and knowing we can do that means everything to us.”
Abbie Suddick, winners’ advisor at Allwyn, operator of The National Lottery, congratulated the couple.
She said: “Congratulations to our lucky Yorkshire winners. What a wonderful example of trusting your instincts.
“We’re delighted they can now help their children and grandchildren, and we wish the whole family all the very best.”
