It could have been ‘devastating’: Audi clocked doing 131mph near York

A driver has appeared in court after reaching nearly twice the speed limit on the A64 near York.

The driver, who has not been named by police, was clocked doing 131mph in his Audi TT at Barton-le-Willows, between York and Malton.

It happened on 20 June this year, and was captured by a North Yorkshire Police safety camera vehicle.

There’s been a lot of previous crashes in this location, where the road has a speed limit of 70mph.
The driver pleaded guilty to speeding. At Harrogate Magistrates Court earlier this week he was ordered to pay fines and costs totalling £1,551, and given six penalty points.
Richard Fletcher, from North Yorkshire Police, said: “Speed limits are set for a reason and exceeding them is illegal.

“We expect motorists to drive responsibly and resist driving at extreme speeds – the impact of doing so can be devastating.”
