A family-run York business has reached the final in two local award nights.
The Hearing Place has been shortlisted for three categories in the YorkMix Choice Awards 2026.
The independent hearing specialist is celebrating after making it through to the final round of public voting in the awards, securing a place in three categories; Best Independent Shop, Best Customer Experience and Best Professional Services Provider.
This year’s awards have seen an incredible response from the local community, with over 55,000 people casting votes in the first round alone. With so many fantastic businesses across York and North Yorkshire taking part, reaching the final stage is a wonderful achievement for The Hearing Place team.
Winners are due to be announced on 29 October at the Milner Hotel in York.
Meanwhile, The Hearing Place has been named as a finalist in three categories at the Yorkshire, Humberside and North East Family Business Awards 2026; Consumer Services, Small Retailers & E-tailers and the People’s Choice award.
Winners will be announced at a ceremony at The Majestic Hotel in Harrogate on 13 November, with judges describing the standard of this year’s entries as ‘outstanding’.
Jess Kyei-Yamoah, co-owner of The Hearing Place, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to reach the finals of both of these awards. We pride ourselves on the excellent service we provide, so to be recognised for it is incredibly special.
“It’s a fantastic achievement for our family-run business, and reflects the team’s dedication to providing friendly, professional and personalised hearing care to the local community. We love how engaged our clients become with the awards, often remembering them and talking about them months after the event.”
The final round of voting for the YorkMix Choice Awards opened on 6 October, with votes from the first round carried forward. Members of the public can vote again to support their favourite local businesses, with voting closing on 28 October.
This month also marks one year since the business opened its clinic in Haxby Shopping Centre. The Hearing Place has clinics across Yorkshire, and specialises in services such as hearing tests, fitting hearing aids and professional ear wax removal.
Jess added: “We love being a part of the community in Haxby, especially getting involved in the scarecrow and sculpture trails. Our customers are at the heart of everything we do, and we’re passionate about helping people hear better and enjoy life to the fullest.”
