A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “An investigation is ongoing following an incident involving two pupils at Nidderdale High School in Pateley Bridge at around 1.15pm on Tuesday 13 October.

“A 13-year-old boy was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.

“Enquiries remain ongoing.”

The school is run by the Moorlands Learning Trust.

Despite the police statement, a trust spokesperson told YorkMix: “I can confirm that the police are not conducting any investigations relating to Nidderdale High School.”

A letter was sent round to parents from the school on Wednesday. It read: “We have received a small number of enquiries relating to an incident requiring medical attention in school yesterday.

“As a precautionary measure, the school contacted the ambulance service to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the young people involved. The school did not contact the police.

“Police officers attended because they were closer and were able to respond more quickly, acting in their capacity as medical first responders.

“The incident was dealt with following our usual school procedures and this is not an ongoing incident.

“Had this been an incident impacting the safety of our wider school community, we would, of course, have contacted parents immediately. Please be assured that this was not the case.

“We appreciate that seeing emergency services at school can understandably cause concern, but please be reassured that the wellbeing and safety of our students remains our highest priority.”
