A BREAKFAST club is bringing veterans together for laughter, camaraderie and a hearty start to the day.

The Shipley Armed Forces & Veterans Breakfast Club meets on Sundays from 10am to noon at The Pride of Shipley, offering a welcoming space for former service personnel.

Deputy Lieutenants of West Yorkshire Vicky Reynolds JP DL and Gill Arnold MBE JP DL joined a recent gathering alongside Cllr Chris Howlett, Bradford Metropolitan District Council's Armed Forces and Veterans Champion.

Mark Sugrue, club spokesperson and an RAF veteran, said: "We had a thoroughly enjoyable morning, made even better by the company of Vicky, Gill and Chris.

"We are extremely grateful for their continued support and interest in our veterans.

"These breakfasts aren't formal affairs.

"There's no membership requirement, no speeches and definitely no parade-ground inspections.

"Just a group of like-minded people enjoying breakfast, a laugh and the sort of banter that only those who have served will truly appreciate."

Mr Sugrue admitted the club would love to see more veterans from Shipley and surrounding areas join in.

He said: "It doesn't matter whether you served three years or thirty, or whether you left the Forces last month or forty years ago.

"You'll find a friendly face, a warm welcome and probably somebody willing to remind you of all the things you'd rather forgotten about military life!"
