A retired North Yorkshire couple are celebrating after scooping a whopping £1 million lottery prize.
The pair, who live near Thirsk, became millionaires after winning on The National Lottery's EuroMillions UK Millionaire Maker draw on September 1.
Unlike many big winners, the lucky duo do not usually play EuroMillions. Instead, one of them normally sticks to Lotto HotPicks.
But on this occasion, he decided to buy a single line for the main EuroMillions draw after his wife became convinced he was about to win - and it became life-changing.
The couple's ticket carried the winning UK Millionaire Maker code, securing them a £1 million prize and instantly changing their family's future.
The couple say their first thoughts have been for their children and grandchildren.
The win means the retired couple can now provide financial support to future generations of their family, something they say was their immediate priority after discovering they had become millionaires.
Speaking about the win, the winner said: "We still can't quite believe it.
"All we want to do now is help the kids and grandkids for the future, and knowing we can do that means everything to us."
Abbie Suddick, a winners' adviser at Allwyn, operator of The National Lottery, said the couple's story showed the value of following your instincts.
She said: "Congratulations to our lucky Yorkshire winners.
"What a wonderful example of trusting your instincts. We're delighted they can now help their children and grandchildren, and we wish the whole family all the very best."
