Railway lines between two North East routes will be closed for the entire weekend.

Journeys between Middlesbrough and Saltburn will be suspended while engineering works take place.

All lines between South Bank and Longbeck will be shut on Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18.

The closures will impact Northern and TransPennine Express services.

It comes as engineering work is taking place between South Bank and Longbeck, requiring all railway lines through the affected section to be closed.

Northern trains which normally run between Bishop Auckland or Darlington and Saltburn will instead terminate at Middlesbrough.

Replacement buses will operate between Middlesbrough and Saltburn throughout the closure.

TransPennine Express passengers will also be affected, with buses replacing trains between Middlesbrough and Redcar Central.

Tickets for TransPennine Express services will be accepted on Northern's rail replacement buses at no extra cost.
