Road closures and parking restrictions will be introduced in Sunderland to allow a Halloween fireworks event to take place safely.

The temporary measures will be in place in Sunderland for the 'Barnes Spooktacular' fireworks display.

Sunderland City Council announced the restrictions, which will come into effect on Friday, October 30, at 3pm.

These restrictions will be lifted by 10pm the same day, although it is anticipated that the roads will reopen by around 9pm.

The closures and restrictions are aimed at ensuring public safety during the event.

The roads affected are split into two categories: those where waiting, loading, and unloading will be prohibited, and those where vehicles, except for resident permit holders, will be banned.

Waiting and loading/unloading will be prohibited at all times on both sides of Barnes Park Road, between Durham Road and Mount Road.

The same restrictions apply to Ettrick Grove, both sides from the junction of Durham Road to the junction of Mount Road.

Hurstwood Road will also be affected, with the restrictions applying on both sides from the junction of Barnes Park Road to the junction of Dunbreck Grove.

For roads where vehicles will be prohibited except for resident permit holders, the restrictions apply to the entire extent of Barnes View, Mount Road South Back, and Colchester Terrace, between Mount Road South Back and Barnes View.

The same restrictions will apply to Farnham Terrace, between Mount Road and Barnes View.

Exemptions will be made for emergency service vehicles on duty and attending an emergency call, as well as vehicles involved in the event.
