A new ‘School Street’ is being introduced by North Yorkshire School on a trial basis.
It will mean that Grove Street, in Norton will close to traffic each day during term time between 8.15am and 9am and 2.45pm and 3.30pm
The pilot, designed to improve safety near Norton Community Primary School at drop off and pick up times, starts from Friday, October 23.

No vehicles will be able to access the street during these times, except for exempted residents displaying a permit. Other exemptions include emergency vehicles, health/care workers and school staff.
Cllr Keane Duncan, North Yorkshire Councillor for Norton, said: “I know there is a great deal of concern about safety at school drop off and pick up times. The ‘School Street’ initiative is being brought forward on a trial basis by the council, working with the school, as a potential improvement.
“I would encourage as many people as possible to share their views so these can be considered by the council before a decision is made on whether it should be made permanent.”
